Rockna Audios Wavebright DAC är en s.k. "R2R-ladder" DA-omvandlare (25-bitars), där omvandlingen sköts av Roknas egna FPGA-baserade mjukvarustyrda digitalkonvertering som styr R2R-modulens digitala arkitektur. Detta innebär i princip att enheten är framtidssäker genom kontinuerliga möjligheter till firmwareuppdateringar.
Atergivningen från denna DAC påminner väldigt mycket om det man får vid uppspelning av LP-skivor på en riktigt bra skivspelare - med sin organiska, homogena och flödande presentation. Resultatet är musikaliskt övertygande och väldigt engagerande där man lätt och snabbt dras in musiken. En känsla av att vilja lyssna mer och mer...
Som tillägget "PRE / DAC" antyder tillåter Wavelight DAC också analoga signaler att nås via ett par RCA-kontakter. För lyssnare som endast vill koppla in en analog källa som t.ex. en skivspelareutöver sina digitala källor är detta ett välkommet tillfälle att fundera över kravet på ett ytterligare försteg. Även om volymkontrollen är digitalt styrd, är denna signalväg helt analogt utformad .
Sammantaget en extremt mångsidig och välljudande DAC. Måste upplevas!

"Wavelight presents a colourful rendering of all types of music. By colourful I’m referring to a wonderfully complete set of tonal textures with broad levels of detail and resolving of melodic structure. Wavelight also ticks all the boxes a good DAC should; it’s generous in terms of input options, provides a wide range of playback resolutions into high DSD territory while the analogue input (with its well-implemented volume control) is pure genius. That last feature is something more DAC builders should offer.
The proprietary digital wizardry places it among the advanced DAC protagonists whose products adopt fully-bespoke technologies – dCS and MSB Technology come to mind first – with most of those being priced way above the Wavelight. It’s also an attractively styled unit which is well-built using quality materials and intelligent engineering.
Given the preceding descriptions, I’d have to enthusiastically recommend the Rockna Audio Wavelight as a high-performing value DAC with worthwhile points of difference. This is most definitely not a cookie cutter digital product. Felicitǎri Rockna!"

"Rocknas Wavelight PRE / DAC belongs to the guild of Ladder DACs. Nothing is off-the-peg, but has been developed and designed from the ground up – the fact that the manufacturer’s experience with its big brother Wavedream has flowed into it is, of course, anything but a disadvantage.
The externals are quickly ticked off. The stable housing offers the electronics safe protection, is neatly processed and cuts a good figure in terms of design. Looking at the many proprietary developments relating to the Wavelight PRE / DAC, one suspects that the budget has mainly been invested elsewhere.
If it’s only about the sound, the Rockna Wavelight shows the taillights of pretty much everything that has done D / A conversion in my listening room so far. Powerful timbres, lifelike dynamics, fine resolution – the Rockna succeeds in fulfilling almost the entire canon of common assessment criteria with ease. He is anything but a soulless model boy, but a first-class music machine. Assuming really good, high-resolution recordings, even my analog set-up has a lot of trouble maintaining the usual distance. In short, this is a DAC with skills and talents that I would have previously suspected in significantly higher price regions. One thing is clear: The Rockna Wavelight PRE / DAC won’t leave my listening room anytime soon."

WAVELIGHT PRE/DAC
SMOOTH AS SILK In our quest for developing a package for the audiophile seeking more than just high-quality audio reproduction, we realized several things. Firstly, we need digital precision but with „analog” charm, free of any „digital glare” yet with rich detail. Secondly, this package needs to provide outstanding value, future proofing, new features and a stunning, timeless design. This is how the „Wavelight DAC” was created, more than just a little brother for the accomplished „Wavedream”. SOFTWARE DEFINED ARCHITECTURE & FPGA TECHNOLOGY Wavelight DAC employs the latest Xilinx 7-series FPGA which allows us to assemble the functions of a custom high performance R2R processor. The Wavelight’s digital processing capabilities are built with complex VHDL coding and state of the art FPGA hardware. The architecture is described, in fact, by a piece of software. When upgrading the Wavelight with new firmware, you actually change its hardware. This system allows great flexibility, obsolescence protection and lets us improve the sound of your dac by changing its internal architecture, add new, cool features, or improve the existing ones. Each digital block is custom built under the Rockna Audio high-performance standard. UPSAMPLING FILTERS For the Wavelight we truly did our math and extended out testing methodology. Careful optimizations allowed us to achieve subtle nuances in listening sessions so that any listener is catered for. Powerful, customized DSP units are performing high precision calculations in real time for studio-quality upsampling. User can choose between 4 filter modes : linear, minimum phase, hybrid mode and NOS.
RECLOCKING & D/A CONVERSION
A combination between memory buffers, digital phase-locked-loop (DPLL) and a custom input clock-decoupling scheme provides effective jitter cleaning before the conversion itself. Using the advanced Femtovox2 technique, the final result will lead to an „analog” sound without compromises.
A high precision R2R discrete ladder is performing the conversion from digital to analog domain, driven by the FPGA algorithms. The Wavelight dac is capable of operating in pure R2R mode or in a Hybrid mode ladder*. Future firmware will allow the switch at the touch of a button.

ANALOG SECTION & POWER SUPPLY
With 5 digital inputs and one analogue input, the unit is also capable of operating as a preamplifier. To avoid data truncation, the volume control inside the Wavelight is fully analogue, even if controlled digitally.
The analog path is fully discrete. Two toroidal power transformers allow the separation between analog and digital circuitry. A massive filtering bank capacity (over 100.000 uF) is conditioning the power supplies.
QUALITY
Each Wavelight is manually assembled in Rockna factory, individually tested and undergoes our strict quality control process. We believe that sound should be complemented by detail in fit and finish, sturdy construction, thorough circuit design and reliability.
This is why we are using selected components such as high precision resistors or audiophile-grade decoupling capacitors. The chassis is entirely built from massive aluminium with anodised finishing and a fine brushed texture.
